Submission Requirements You are required to submit a 1500 word report that includes: • An overview of the chosen project; • The context for the chosen project; • A description of its design and construction (if already built); • A critical evaluation of the chosen project. Report should cover further points and make comparison with other similar projects, in particular contrasting with similar historic projects. Word count must be stated clearly at the end of the report. The count excludes the bibliography. Guidance on Preparing the Submission Choice of Project You can choose any contemporary Civil Engineering project (contemporary means completed in the last 50 years), under construction or currently planned. The project could be from any discipline in Civil Engineering. You may want to consider choosing a local project. Research on the Project Find out as much as you can about the project. Why was it built? What factors influenced the choice of building technology and material, form, where, and how it was built? How sustainability influenced design decisions? How sustainable is the project? What methods were used? Who designed it? Who built it? Who paid for it? What design rules were used? There are many sources of information to consult: University libraries, the internet, online journals (e.g. ICE virtual library).
