With the low cost esp8266 module you can remove the arduino part of the equation. It can be programmed with their own SDK, the Arduino IDE or with Lua using the Lua firmware. To maintain the same code base for Arduino and iOS Cordova/PhoneGap can be used. Compiling for the iOS a MAC is a requirement.
