CSS FIx in website

I have a website I have created in CSS. I added a side menu bar and it is placed in a div. I would like the bar to tile all the way down the left side of the website and fit the span of the page. I've left off the height rule so it would do that but for some reason that isn't working and that is what I need fixed. I've attached a screen shot with a read arrow pointing to where I would like the black background to continue to the bottom of the page. This project is a RUSH project and would need to be started and finished today so please do not bid if you can't start at a later time. Thanks!
