We are looking for a cricket fanatic to design a logo and set of bat stickers for an artisan cricket bat maker. Made from a private stock of of English willow and designed specifically for Australian conditions, we are The Handmade Bat Company - the wood is English, but the heart is pure Australian. We are looking for a new logo and stickers for our bats, and want a designer that understands what we're about and has the creativity to interpret that rather than just guessing at what they think we want or are simply following what the rest of the industry are doing. By all means take cues from the big boys, but if you're about to submit anything that looks like those ghastly Chris Gayle Spartan bats, then you are on the wrong path. The premise of which are along the same lines as the Australian craft beer boom. Thoroughly modern, yet working with traditions to produce the finest possible product - but we are NOT a retro brand, there is a difference... Not at all mass market, but not in the least bit amateurish. We are the craftsmen, the artisans making beautiful products for the individual. The Handmade Bat Co. is the secret stash of craft beer at a party where everyone else is drinking Tooheys. There is a quirkiness to us and a sense of humour, but without ever joking when it comes to our quality or the sport we love. If we sledge an opponent it is with wit and humour rather than crass insults - you wouldn't find us threatening to break someone's arm, but we'd have no issue with playing the game hard enough to actually do it, but we'd be the first to help a fallen opponent to their feet or to applaud his century or an unplayable delivery. We want to stand out but through class and quality rather than being garish. We may think the umpire is blind, but when the finger is raised we go. We are the 2006/7 Ashes series - arriving off the back of a loss with a point to prove against an arrogant opponent. We have class throughout and beat the opposition by being the best and playing the game hard and fair. We are NOT the IPL or Big Bash. The Big Bash is a Hungry Jack's meal deal washed down with a VB longneck. We are a chef prepared meal with great company in that new restaurant that only those in the know have heard about yet. We are Gilly walking in the World Cup semi-final because he respects the game and knows he is good enough to not need to cheat, not Stuart Broad standing there trying to look innocent. We are made for the individual that has the confidence to want the best he/she can get rather than wanting what everyone else has. We sell to classy Grade and top Shires players. There is no interest in chasing the endorsement of State or Test players. Handmade Bat Co bats retail for A$500-600 so the stickers need to look good. We can have clear sections, mirrored foil, multiple colours or anything else that you think will make them sing. So, you will be: 1) A skilled, creative designer. By all means send us a portfolio of the bland stuff that all freelancers have to do to earn a living, but what we really want to see are the things you want to do and how you imagine our branding going. 2) A cricket fanatic. You'll have probably played the game, but you certainly love the sport. When you send us your proposal I want you to tell us who your first cricket hero was and why (it tells us a surprising amount about you) 3) You are almost certainly Australian - We need someone that REALLY gets modern Australian culture, not some cliché of what you think it might be. 4) You're a craft beer guy/girl in a VB world. We produce and sell handmade cricket bats. 5) You're an individual freelance (maybe a partnership at a push). We've worked with companies and we've worked with individuals and freelancers have been the best EVERY time.
