Brixton Topcats has been a catalyst for interest in the game of basketball for decades. Today, the club is arguably the most famous basketball club in England, with a trophy cabinet and alumni to rival any club in the country.

The Brixton Topcats men’s basketball team play in Division 2 of the England Basketball national league. They play at their home court at Brixton Recreation Centre in the heart of the multi-ethnic community south-west London, with a large percentage of its population being of African and Caribbean descent.

Brixton Topcats is a cornerstone of the local community and has touched the lives of thousands of inner city children in the last thirty years. The nickname 'Topcats' is inspired by the cartoon of the same name, relevant for its parody of the relationship between young people in the community and the police. The current development programme attracts around 100 juniors every week and has strong links with local schools and an official partnership with London South Bank University. In addition to developing talent the club has an elite strand that competes at the highest level with the Ladies Topcats, and Junior and Senior teams that have been league mainstays since 1985.

Our current WordPress site was somewhat a quick fix. The club needed an avenue to promote games and results and what was next for the club in the league. The site fails to accurately present our alumni, international players and the history behind the club in a manner we deem to be visually appealing. We are an internationally renowned club, producing the likes the Justin Robison, Luol Deng, Eric Boateng, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Ogo Adeboye; all of which began their basketball journey at Brixton Topcats and went on to represent Great Britain in the 2012 Olympic Games, but this is just not reflected in the site and its design. We need to make our stories more prominent.
