CourseStarter is an iOS phone app that lets people propose new courses that would like to teach and let others donate money for the course if they like it. In other words, it is like [login to view URL] for only online classes. It is a very simple app with only three screens:
1. Sign Up (via Twitter)
2. Browse Courses (donate if you like)
3. New Course (propose a new course)
Overview of Project

We are looking for a team to build out the application in two phases. Building out the application includes both the phone app and the backend cloud service. This requirements document covers what we need for Phase 1 and 2.
The most important objective of these first two phases is to help us create a scalable backend architecture and app that can support the growth to 100,000 active users.
You may notice that the app is missing some key features, e.g. a user profile screen. It is so, because we will build out the remaining features ourselves before launch.
Follow On Work: After the first two phases, we expect to need ongoing help from an experienced developer to help us with more sophisticated features as they arise.
Systems Requirements

Mobile iOS App
1. Native iOS development using ObjectiveC
2. Build only for iPhone 6 running iOS8.1.3 or later (ignore other devices for now)
3. Use of third-party libraries not exceeding total cost of $300
4. Delivered as Xcode project in GitHub
Cloud Service
1. Use Heroku as the platform for server-side app
2. Works (in low volume) with most basic Heroku setup:
a. 1x Dyno
b. 1 Hobby level Database
3. Reasonably scale to 100,000 active users with following setup in Heroku:
a. Performance Dyno
b. Standard Database
4. Communication between phone app and server app uses industry standards, e.g. REST
5. Please consult with us if architecture needs additional cloud service costs, e.g. Pusher for real-time updates. Let’s try to avoid that.
User Interface
1. We will provide all the detail screen designs and necessary content, e.g. icons, sample images, sample courses, etc.
