The purpose of this project is to show off Java's AWT and Swing classes. No tricky algorithms are required and no (or very little) SQL support is needed. This project is largely up to interpretation, so long as the programmer follows certain guidelines which can be obtained by contacting me. An example of one of these guidelines is that the program must make use of a Random Access File. The programmer(s) will have to write in Java one or both of the following programs:
1) This program should have all of the basic functionality that many programs today have. An example a program done in the past is a Paypal simulator that displayed a splash window, implemented a few dialog boxes, combo boxes, list boxes, text boxes, etc. It allowed a user to log in, sign up, enter information, add/remove/transfer funds. Data verification is a must. Connectnig to the internet or to a SQL/foxpro database is not necessary.
2) A short RPG, preferablly a fantasy RPG. Gameplay does not need to be longer than 10-30 minutes. 3D Graphics are not required. Graphics that look as though they were made in the early 1970s, '80s, or '90s are acceptable. This game will require enemies, interactive NPCs (non-player controlled) such as shopkeepers, character stats, a boss, weapons and armor, and perhaps magic. Textboxes will be necessary to interact with the player.
There will be no lewd, adult, or inappropriate content in either of the programs.
All source code must be extensively documented. Lack of sufficient documentation, which includes the use of short comments, is not acceptable.
## Deliverables
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
4) All source code must be extensively documented. Lack of sufficient documentation, which includes the use of short comments, is not acceptable.
5) The programmer must explain fully every part of the program.
* * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Tuesday Sep 12, 2006 8:43:01 AM:
There have been so many requests to work on this job that the bidding deadline will be extended. The guidelines will be posted within a few days and a global message will be sent out with a link to them. Currently, most of the bids are in the 500-800 USD range, with a few over 2,000.
So let's see competition work it's magic!
## Platform
Windows XP, but operating system shouldn't be an issue since the programs will be written in Java.
