Adding Table rows jquery PHP Ajax

Hi, We need a table that is constantly updated with any new data that might be put in the database. They will be used for a number of different tables so the code needs to be flexible example handle any kind of table row. What is needed: On page load it will put a table of the last 20 messages in the game. Some JavaScript would check with the server if there is any new messages. If there is it will insert those new messages at the beginning of the table in order. It will then remove the same number from the bottom of the table, keeping the table no more than a certain number of rows. I have done a quick drawing attached hopefully it will explain what I mean. The tools: jquery as it is what we use already and probably the easiest and simplest way of doing it.
