Fundamental Algorithms and actually understand them Because I have a degree in theoretical and practical computer science Because I don't believe in Nicklaus' Algorithms+Data Structures=Programs although really it forms the backbone of object-oriented programming, it is written very badly Because I have been programming C++ since 1988 Before that I mostly programmed ATARIs in various languages. mostly, assembler (first professionally paid in a published magazine in 1982) Because before that I studied Algorithms+Data Structures=Programs by Wirth of Pascal and MODULA 2 fame Because I am very thorough (or thoro) Because I am very cheap because I want to get my first job at freelancer.com Because I was a C++ MSDN for two years in 2009 and 2010, one of only four in the UK (pressure of work made me feel I had not time to contribute so asked not to be considered after) Why not to: I meet deadlines but only just because I like elegant solutions that will last, so tend to polish things too much to get them to their bare minimum Because I over-engineer things sometimes. Because I am a bit old-fashioned and maybe not open to new ways of doing things. Mathematics and algorithms don't tend to change much over time, though.
