We require a C Programmer to develop software to run a flip dot display module. The product has been imported from Poland and project specific software has been written by the supplier for it's first installation, we are now looking for software to be developed in Australia for future projects. We have two projects, one is to integrate an XML file generated from a ticketing system automatically into an existing program to run movie session times. The other is to explore the product potential. We would like to develop a suite of display options which could include image based display to simple text. The completed project is movie session times for a new cinema, we would like to explore other applications including art installations with motion recognition, the options are endless. We would like develop a relationship with a programmer to develop possibilities in the first instance then project specific jobs when they come on board. This is a totally time flexible position which can be worked on during programmers free time. This is a fun experimental opportunity for someone who likes playing with things that do cool stuff. The modules run on simple rs485 input, all you need is programming knowledge and an imagination. The current program is in C and would prefer to stay in C as there is knowledge base in Poland we can draw on for problem solving if required, however we are open to anything.

It seems like fun to work on something that'll interact directly with hardware! So far I've only really developed desktop software, so it'd be fun to work on a project like this. From your description I understand that this is a totally time flexible position, which sounds very nice. I know C pretty well (it's not that complicated a language, after all) and I consider myself to be a pretty competent programmer, so I feel like I should be able to handle something like this.

Hi there. I have 25 years of professional SW experience plus about half that again as a hobbyist, mostly in C. My main speciality is embedded SW, but I have also written compilers, editors and other text processors. Projects have ranged from automotive to scientific instruments to model railway control systems. I am based in Melbourne, and am currently involved with starting up a small business so a bit of simple, relaxing work would be welcome. Your basic project (parsing the cinema XML and feeding it to the display hardware) looks quite straightforward, though as always the devil is in the details - it depends on how well matched the raw content is to the display's basic features, what the Polish SW does and does not do, etc. Your open-ended extended project is also the sort of thing I am quite good at - using a bit of imagination and finding out just what a device can be made to do. You haven't mentioned what development environment, tool chain, etc. is required. I am currently mainly set up for work on Windows and PICs, but others can be accommodated. Regards, Martin K.

I have experienced coding in C for almost 3 years now. Though my job is not C library intensive it involves nonetheless the creation of hardware modules based from specifications and coding their behavior into C code which is then converted into hardware descriptions that can be used to manufacture integrated chips. I have however managed to create an LED matrix signage program built through python that can be interfaced with a web application. The LED matrix is 8x64 dots if my memory serves me right. I have created the driver for it using python deployed in a linux based RaspberryPi. I managed to create some basic animation stuff as well. This happened sometime around march of 2014 and i have no prior background of python back in the time, but somehow managed to pull through the project within 3 days or so.. I just feel that driving flip dot display is equally as fun!
