This is a children's book from the perspective of a pair of shoes on the first day of school.
The shoes encounter various types of other shoes which reflect themes in race, gender,
socioeconomic status and other inequalities and differences. The shoes encounter another
pair of shoes which show them how to treat everyone equal, no matter the kind of shoe.
The text deals with common childhood emotions and contains figurative language such as
personification and pun all in a rhyming scheme. There are no other books which contain
the elements of personification with shoes. There are other books that address the first
day of school, but more on the logistics of what to expect, not a focus on the anxiety and
emotion of meeting unfamiliar faces. I have included emotions and perspectives that
children feel when first encountering different types of people.
The book has about 30 landscape pages (plus front and back cover) and 30 unique, different pairs of shoes - I am looking for more realistic shoes rather than cartoon. In your proposal, please show me some sketches of shoes.
I intent to publish through Amazon Kindle Direct publishing, so any experience in formatting for that service would be appreciated.
