We have a Microsoft CRM 2011 server that sends email out through a local Windows Server 2008 SMTP service on the same server. This email often stops working. We need to get it working, figure out the root cause and put a documented process in place to keep it from happening or document and automate the fix.
The email goes out in different different ways.
1) CRM workflows send messages
2) users manually kickoff an email workflow
3) users logged into the app click the email customer button
Option 3 works most of the time but not always. the other two break frequently.
The CRM SMTP Configuration has a local connector to SMTP and an O365 connector. I am not sure we need the O365 connector; if this is getting in the way, we can send everything out via SMTP.
Messages that are sent directly to internal employees are not going out at all regardless of method of delivery. Emails to customers fail regularly.
Must have experience with CRM 2011 and SMTP connectors as well as a solid foundation in SMTP email ; SPF records; DNS and the like.
