Control the speed of CPU fan.

Hello I would like to automatically vary the speed of my CPU fan depending on the CPU's temperature. At the moment the fan either comes on at full speed or is off. At the moment the CPU fan comes on full speed if the CPU goes above 60 degrees. The fan is very noisy and distracting when at full speed, especially when the machine is sitting idle! I know programs exist that monitor the temeprature of the CPU and vary the speed of the fan accordingly; this is what I want to do BUT I want the code to do this so that I can use it in my project, I do not want to use existing programs like CPUIdle or SpeedFan (they are not ideal anyway and a bit over the top for my needs). I understand that the CPU needs to be cooled so I know I cannot turn the fan off or down too much so I need the program to monitor the temperature and control the fan's speed (and hence the noise!) where the fan's speed is dependant on the CPU's temperature. I don't wish to restrict the coding language options to deliver a solution to this request but I do need to be able to incorporate the code solution into my VB project. Even if I am just able to incorporate the final code into my own VB form front end, that would be great. (Sorry if this is an inconvenience). I hope this is clear and you can help.
