I have been working with GPS tracking software for a bit over 3 years. There are existing open source packages that can be modified to monitor the CalAmp device.
Monitoring 300 devices is a walk in the park, these open source packages i.e. OpenGTS can handle thousands of tracking devices.
What other requirements do you have? For instance...
- Do you need to send email alerts.
- Do you need to track drivers hours or performance?
- Do you need to keep track of the contents of the trailers?
- Would you require the OBD data i.e. engine temp, oil pressure etc.. to be stored in the database?
The list could go on for ever so, it would be best to have plans short term and long term for this.
Also please understand that the CalAmp device communicates using low level TCP/UDP raw socket communications not your typical HTTP so PHP on Apache web server is not a solution. The Java, C++/C# languages are what is used to write device communications software. You may want to change the project requirement so you find the right help.
