I just want to take this up as this is an interesting problem of fuzzy search. ---------- Your predefined dictionary contains almost 40% of words with * (suffix match) and this is where the performance is going to hit if you try to build a single python dictionary for predefined dictionary. I plan to split predefined dictionary into 27 dictionaries of two groups: 1 with words without * and 26 dictionaries for words with *. These 26 dictionaries will be contain different words based on their starting letter (e.g. a or b or c etc.) Second dictionary is easy and with traversing twice, that will be done. I would like to discuss the implementation in detail. Message me if you liked my idea for implementation.
