Interactive maps: countries are to change colors depending on filter value

Hello, I would love to make this map. I would do likely do it using SVG, which allows me to display vector graphics on a web page. It's really the best way to be able to change the colors of shapes. I've worked with SVG quite a bit, so I'm sure I would have no issue completing this. EDIT: Here's a link to an SVG country map, I would probably use this as my starting point. You can see how they are distinct shapes by mousing over them: [login to view URL] Will this map end up in a WordPress site? I'm also a WordPress developer, so I can complete this as a plugin, and you would get the map on a page as a shortcode.
