Packet Filtering with Netfilter
A service running in the background which screens and filters network packets contain chat messages which are sent to the server through WebSocket protocol. The filtering engine did its jobs by referring to a predefined rule-set, also asking third party public services for any general blocking patterns. There was also a limiting engine equipped to prevent users from overusing or exploiting the chat servers system. This service is a multiprocessing program written in Python, utilizing libnetfilter_queue kernel shared library, iptables and running in Linux environment. It was able to serve up to 15K concurrent users at a same time.
