Political economy of the mass media

The paper discusses that how media manufacture the consent of public and effect their lives. It reviews the political economy of the media and the issues that arise because of ownership, concentration and control policies of media. Mass media is a mechanism for informing and entertaining the general public to form them into one opinioned larger society. The larger interests of the some few wealthy individuals are promoted through media that use some systematic propaganda techniques (Herman and Chomsky, p.61). Media is a powerful medium that uses such propagation techniques to manufacture the public opinion as in 1914 when Woodrow Wilson was elected as president, his administration was very passionate to join European war whereas American population did not see any good reason to get involved in the war. That's why the administration created Creel Commission to persuade people in their desired direction.
