Description:
Need a programmer to create a REST API call on an already functioning server written in Ruby with the Sinatra web framework. (Development will happen via a development server or after being given the code). Support is needed for Push Notifications. Ideally this would work for both Android and iOS, but the current application is only using iOS as of current, but will need Android in the future.
Ideally, Google Cloud Messaging was believed to be used to accomplish this so that it’d work on both iOS and Android, but if one can get it to work for just Apple Push Notifications (APNs) that would be satisfactory.
Right now there is a REST API call “/addf” which takes certain information. Ideally via database additions, or parameters of the API call, one could “add a friend” and that friend would receive a push notification if that someone has added them. As we don’t know the ins and outs of push notifications we are open to other formats for how this could work or should work, but this was an idea of how it could work. Right now apple push notifications have not been setup at all.
Bonus Work Description:
Extra work would be help implementing the swift code to display the notification to the user, but this is not required. As long as some reference can be given on the working of the system via the API call and what parameters it would need or how the notification “registration ids” or unique identifiers will be implemented as well as the format and exact information that will be passed through a notification.
Extra Info:
The iOS app is already built and working as well as the Ruby server written in Sinatra. This functionality has to be added onto a current build without breaking current functionality and in a quick timeframe.
