General Guidelines
The central goal of this project is to develop a full scale, dynamic, server side e-business web site. The site must support all aspects of business. Among other things the site must allow visitors to view and purchase products. You are free to choose a theme of your choice but your idea must be discussed with your supervisor. You MUST seek approval from your supervisor before committing to any other effort.
The site must include the following features as a minimum:
a) Customers must be able to view and search for a list of products. The list of products must be dynamically generated from data stored in a database.
b) Customers must be able to register, and purchase items from a predefined list of products. Some form of a shopping basket must be available to support purchasing activities. This must be highly graphical to promote sale activities. For example each product must be accommodated with relevant information and image(s).
c) Any additional content required to support the site e.g. home page, contact us page, about us etc.
d) The site must provide strong administration facilities to support its operations. This includes managing all data aspects in relation to the site e.g. manipulation of products (add/edit/delete/List), manipulation of customer data, users etc.
e) Security: Authentication and membership features must exit to support privileged users and protect site content from unauthorized users.
f) All data received from site users must be properly validated using server side validation.
g) The design of the site must be based on professional standards and must be aesthetically attractive. It is also important that the design is based on a consistent template/theme across all pages in the site. As a minimum the use of the following items is mandatory:
a. External CSS for formatting
b. Advanced page layout (e.g. three column layouts, headers, footers, nested tables etc.)
c. Clear and aesthetically attractive navigational menus.
d. A collection of multimedia elements to enhance the site aesthetics (company logos, images, videos etc.)
OPTIONAL:
a) You are allowed to use any design templates that you may think are suitable to improve the outcome of your design.
b) You are also allowed to use any tool that you may think is suitable to design the layout of your site e.g. Dreamweaver.
