GunCon2 to PC Hardware fix

Hi,

I need to use a PS3 GunCon (2,3 or 4) Controller on the PC via USB.

I do not need the "Light" feature of the gun to work. I am only interested in using it as a joystick as the application I'm writing requires a "gun". I just need to use it as it has a "D-Pad" and a trigger built into it

I have had a windows driver written for it by a RAC coder that works well.

The problem is the hardware. It seems to need some 'syncing' or some 'earthing' or something for it to work consistently.

When plugged into the PC it will work well, but only when you hold the RCA / Composite connector. Even then it is intermittent. It seems that some buttons on the gun always work, others only when you 'touch' the RCA connector. Also the rate at which the gun processes presses of the button varies. If you do not hold the RCA then it seems to process the button presses once every few seconds, rather than constantly.

The GunCon is not faulty, I have tried with a few of them and get the same issue.

I would like to send the GunCon to you, have you connect it to your PC with the driver, then use your electronics experience to work out why it is intermittent.

You will then develop a work around based on your conclusions. Either an adaptor or altering the wiring insde the gun. It is preferable if you can create an adaptor or a work around that does not involve opening the gun. Even if it's a software issue and you can alter the driver or create a new driver that's fine.

Once again, I do not* need the light functionality to work at all. I'm simply using it as a gun shaped joystick. I will be using it in a FPS application, so the D-Pad will move the character, the trigger will shoot the weapon and the other buttons will change weapons, jump etc.
