Assignment Description:
The School of Computing in Made-Up University is replacing its building and
during the process upgrading its network and network services.
The School of Computing will deploy a web proxy in order to reduce external
bandwidth and perform content filtering. The choices have been narrowed down
to three possibilities:
• Squid
• Apache mod proxy
• Network Address Translation
You should had in a report which should include the following
• a brief description of the configuration of each of the proxying system
• a description of how you tested each of the aspects of performance
• the results of your tests
• finally, using the multi-criteria decision making process provide a recommendation for which of the three proxying systems to use.
Things to consider
Performing an experiment just once doesn’t give you a sounds basis for a conclusion you will therefore need to perform any performance experiment multiple times in order to perform a robust analysis of the performance.
Although two programs that can be used to test the performance of the
proxies have been suggested these are by no means the only options and they
may not be the best options for the workload described, they will however serve
as a starting point.
