Business Directory

I intend to build a sector specific business directory, it is an extension of an existing succesful niche business site and will be linked to it but be branded seperately. My initial thoughts are that it is based on Wordpress using the Businesspress directory theme, however I am looking for a cost efficient solution so will consider options.

My full data set consists of 8,500 active clean and current uk business names. The initial site will hold between 150 to 1,000 business entries, within which there are initially a minimum of product category heading and two sub categories the site will need to cater for more sub cats should they manifest themselves. The data set needs an easy data import into the site which I think BusinessPress Directory has. It is envisaged that once live the initial site will act as a template, be reskinned and very quiickly rolled out too at least two other associated sectors.

Home page should be visually very clean and efficient, if based on BPDirectory the emphasis has to be on the search options but there will be a requirement to include product based editorial content, featured companies and special offers as individual content components. Graphically I am very particular so all ideas are welcome as long as the theme is stylish. Preference will be given to those bids that bring creativity to the fore.

Functionality needs to accomodate two customer sets -

C1 Businesses who will amend / upgrade or enhance their existing listings

C2 Visitors to site who wish to access the data

Both sets of customers will be required to log in -

C1 will log in as per businesspress admin to undertake their upgrades or housekeeping.

C2 will be able to search the data for free and be served the results in a listings format and if they wish to view the results a 'free' log in form needs to be served for the site to capture name and valid e-mail address. This data will need to report to an integrated e-mail server, ideally mailchimp but will consider constant contact.

Search should be by product category, geographically / postcode or by company name, the data set holds this information. Search results must deliver preferred data sets first, preferred = those C1 businesses that have entered into an affiliate programme. Therefore an appropriate affiliate tracking package needs to be included, which the C1 customer can either activiate when entering data or admin team can activate through back office .

Search listings delivered should include but not be limited to name, address with Google Map, phone number, email,

and have appropriate space for single or multiple product images and descriptions, website link / links and social media profile links.

Site needs to be fully optimised for clean search, should have the abililty to take paying banners, as well as google adsense. A shopping cart package needs to be included to take listings / enhanced listings and advertising payments.

This needs to be set up to take repeat payments.

It is imperative that the site has a very user freindly back office admin.

No doubt there are other options that I have not included and I am happy to discuss these should there be a functionality I have missed that will generate more revenue.

I am used to managing site builds and am aware of the Wordpress, theme and plug in costs. I will buy the required domain, hosting, plug ins and themes required the succesful bidder will strap it all together to the agreed spec,

This project has a limited budget to get it into life, once live there are imediately two template re-skins plus a further e-store site build. Thereafter across 2011 the intetion is to build a series of three sector specific shopping stores, so it is worth noting that unrealistic bids will be ignored and I am looking for a reliable partner in these ventures, hence the target price of the initial project.
