Project Management Model:
Al-Sadi realizes that most projects, even seemingly complex ones, are based upon technologies that are quite mature and readily available. Therefore, success of a project is very rarely a matter of having the necessary technical expertise; rather, it is a matter of having the necessary project management skills. The skills guarantee the success through detailed specifications and a time schedule that is executable. For every project Al-Sadi follow the following model:
• Prototyping. Projects that have a short development life cycle (less than 6 months), and for which formal specifications are not available in minute detail, lend themselves to development via prototyping. In this method, the customer remains a key player in the design, reviews and alpha testing. Based upon the understanding received by our programmers, Al-Sadi creates a non-functional prototype. This prototype includes all the external features of the software or website, and for all appearances, it looks like the real thing. It’s called nonfunctional because there is no “programming code” behind it and the features do not really work. It takes several reviews by the customer and modifications by Al-Sadi programmers before the prototype if finally approved.
Then, the programmers start building the backend software (and that is the easy part for us!). The functional prototype also goes through a few revisions, and with each revision, the number of features that actually work increases, resulting in the final product. The best element in all of this activity is to safeguard the client’s interest with out any unwanted surprises!
• Beta Testing. No matter how well software is designed or programmed, there will be bugs. And even if there are no bugs, the customer will ask for modifications. These modifications are forced because of feedback received from users. In most cases such suggestions from experienced users ca not be ignored and must be accommodated. To cater to this need, Al-Sadi budget the beta testing period in all projects.
• Warranty. Al-Sadi strictly follows the time line and intervals between beta testing and warranty. Warrantygenerally means fixing only those problems that violate formal specifications. In real life, however, it becomes difficult to draw that fine line and we end up doing work that is more like maintenance. But we go ahead and do that, because, after all we have emotional attachment with all work we do, and the production system reflects our company also. Your continuing success is our success. The betatest/ warranty period is 90 days on all our work.
• Project Team. Having a team working on a project has its advantages. The most important one is that it provides a guarantee of continuity. If a team member exits due to some reason, the project does not suffer. Also, the team is around to do maintenance when the time comes. So, even in the minor project, the following team structure is followed:
1. An Account Manager. This is the person who handles the business aspect of the project. He or she remains in the loop from the very beginning until the end of the warranty period. The Account Manager monitors the progress and steps in if and when there is a need to coordinate schedules or budget issues.
2. A Project Manager. This is the person who writes (or rewrites) the project specifications and finalizes with the customer. He makes the schedule including weekly milestones where the customer can review progress and suggest minor corrections. The first milestone is finalization of the specs or demonstration of a prototype. Subsequent milestones demonstrate features as they get implemented. When the system goes on-line, the project team remains on standby to fix any bugs that may appear during testing.
3. Programmers. Depending upon the project, one or more programmers with relevant skills are
assigned.

We understand that sometimes the chemistry between the customer and the developer does not work, and there is a need to disengage. Generally this realization comes early in the project. During the prototyping (that’s the second milestone) if the customer decides things are not going as they wish, they can cancel the project and AL-SADI will refund half of the advance payment. After the prototype is approved, then there is no turning back for either party.
