PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Maritz Learning
September 2006 – December 2006
Application Developer
Participated in enhancing an existing framework supporting multiple web applications. The application is
highly object-oriented, requiring a very good understanding of commonly used design patterns. My
participation was mainly in database design, the Data Access tier, and the Business Objects tier. I created
a number of stored procedures that utilized the new XML data type, enabling complex business objects to
be created on the database server, passed to the application as XML streams and deserialized into fully
functional business objects.
In addition, I designed and developed a new messaging service for the framework. Developed in C#, it
supports asynchronous messaging using email or SMS instant messaging to phone devices.
After those enhancements were complete, I was moved to a SQL Server Reporting Services based web
application. The bulk of my involvement was designing and developing SQL Server Integration Services
packages to extract nightly data refreshes to the underlying data warehouse. In addition to developing 8
complex SSIS packages, I designed, developed, and tested a .NET application to control the execution of
the packages. Parameters for the application are gathered from a related XML file. I gained some exposure
to SSRS as well, primarily through helping the report developers write effective SQL code.

April 2006 – August 2006
Production Support
Duties were primarily troubleshooting and maintenance programming for a large, mission critical web
application using VB.NET, JavaScript, XML, and SQL Server 2000. As time allowed, I was also involved in
developing and testing enhancements for future releases of the application.

November 2005 – April 2006
Application Architect / Lead Developer
Performed Analysis, Design, and Development duties for a VB6 to C# conversion project for the Document
Control department. The existing application is a legacy VB app running on a single NT 4.0 server. The
application was redesigned as a true n-tier application serving approximately 120 users. The solution now
consists of the following components:
* Oracle 9i database schema and 80 + stored procedures.
* A Windows service which captures scanned document images and related metadata, validates the
input, copies the document images to a Documentum server, and sends a message to a TIBCO
workflow server.
* Two Web Service applications that provide data services for the Windows Service, the TIBCO
workflow processes, and two new C# Windows applications. The web services made extensive use
of XML in the serialization and deserialization of business objects.
* DLLs for data access, business object definition, and business rules processing.
* A Windows app for the 120 users to manage the 400+ types of documents in the system.
* A second Windows app for administrative and reporting tasks
The client is in the early stages of moving from Java and VB6 applications to a .NET based architecture.
For that reason, the web services which I designed were the first .NET ever for the client.
