Analyze some Social Science Data using SPSS

Social Science – Criminology Survey response data from 2952 Australians on experiences of crime and attitudes to neighbourhood guardianship The survey responses present a mix of nominal data and ordinal data (where a five-point scale has been used). The data is clustered into - Predisposition through training e.g. first aid, self-defence and defence force experience - Experience of criminal activity on their street e.g. direct experience to robbery, vandalism etc - Time periods spent at home e.g. three-point reference for each day of the week - Time periods/frequency of active monitoring of streets - Response type to witnessing a crime e.g. active engagement, calling the police - Attitudes to policing and neighbourhood relations e.g. positive perceptions Part One: Looking for: - Descriptive analysis of the dataset - Validation that it is not normally distributed - Non-parametric analysis then of differences and correlations between variables that provide insights into - Individual experiences of criminal activity, and/or - neighbourhood guardianship attitudes, and/or - neighbourhood guardianship experiences - impact of any training or specific training on intent for guardianship and action around guardianship - general attitudes to policing - impact of any training on attitudes towards policing - relationship between experience of crime and attitudes towards policing - relationship between offense response and general attitudes towards policing ie is guardianship only a policing job or is it a shared responsibility. Part Two: Time permitting, in the second part of the analysis, to augment the .sav data with victimisation data (.xls) and identify any relationships. Additional briefing on this will follow once insights from Part One are identified. Requirements; - Describe data set and identify factors with most influence - Identify factors with most variability across the sample - Identify relationships between key variables - Provide insight to enable answers to above list
