Time 3 hours Oral Presentation 1: Poems (or Songs) Analyze and interpret two poems (or songs) of your choice. As song lyrics or performance pieces, poetry lends itself to entertainment rather than rigorous scrutiny. In the classroom, however, the written word is paramount, especially the words of established poets. 1. For each poem or song, write a reader-response (250 words) analyzing the poems on the elements, art, and craft of the poem. In your presentation, include a reply to the following questions: 3. What does the poem teach us about esthetic sensibility, modes of expression, use of language? How does the poet cover concrete imagery, narrative arc, subtle aspects of prosody, emotional credibility, manipulation of time, or sense of place? 4. Present your paper to the class. Select a portion of the poem to read to the class. You may use the poem, images or text for the presentation. Your presentation should be three to five minutes. 5. Create a visual presentation for the class. Include visuals, activities (e.g. surveys or flyers), or something interactive to engage your audience.
