Need to create the schematics and PCB design for a circuit that runs off 3.3VDC power source and is able to convert the signal from 4-20mA 12VAC loop current sensor devices to a range of 0-3.3V DC that can be read by the microcontroller. Parts should be selected to maximize ratio of SMD. 4-20mA sensor will be connected via BNC connector. The output should be screw terminal with GND, VCC (3.3v), and SIGNAL. Design should be in Protel or Altium Designer. Deliverables should be in the form of schematic file, PCB design file, BOM, and gerber. Hi, My background includes a lot of instrumentation design for low level measurement including strain gauges, pressure transducers and other transducers. I have worked with 4-20mA devices previously. Key components are the shunt resistor and the associated amplifier. Driving down to 0V and to 3.3V is possible ( within a few millivolts) froma 3.3V supply using rail-to rail input and output op amps. This suggests that you are using Vcc or Vca as the reference for your ADC inside the micro. That is ok but accuracy is dependent on Vcc/Vca. What accuracy are you trying to achieve? Can you live with 0-20mA equating to 0-3.3V and then offsetting in software or do you want 4-20mA = 0 to 3.3V? Best regards Marc

I am an Electronics Engineer with extensive experience of PCB designing and manufacturing. I have been working on Altium Designer for a long time now. I also have experience of manufacturing PCBs using LPKF prototyping tools. Me along with my fellows, we work in a group. We have been designing and making instrumentation circuits for the local industry for 2 years now and you know 4-20mA current loop is industry standard. Hence, this task is a piece of cake for us. We are well aware of concepts like EMI-EMC , design for manufacturability etc. As an example, we designed an cheap PTC-100 to 4-20mA converter circuit from locally available components to reduce cost. We are equally flexible with both SMD and through hole types.

I'm an engineer from Hungary with 3+ year HW and FW design experience. I am new in freelancer.com, and this project could be a good start, but I successfully finished several PCB design in a company where I am working (audio, testers to industry, linux board design, etc). Using INA216 or something similar the conversion is quite easy, so the design would be fast. I hope I didn't miss your problem. I'm ready to discuss design details, and approx. times.

What is the 12 Vac bit do you mean it is the supply to the system,4-20mA loop generally scaled through resistor for voltage -then scaled.
