Hello there, We need Linux expert to work for us on various Linux related projects , First tasks is get configured Server RAID Hardware based on MegaRAID 9271 Cache 1 GB + CacheVault There are attached 4 drives on it 2x2TB + 2x300GB SSD We want to use best configuration like strip size, virtual disks, RAID0. RAID1,partition types, etc... for billions of small files with average size range from 5kb to 500kb With ssd drives we want to achieve performance and with the mechanical drives we want to ensure data integrity and backup. Please put some info related about our need of hardware config in bid so we know you read and understand project description.

Hello, The optimal strip size would be 64 to 128 K for better I/O performance. Raid 0+1 would be recommend to maintain availability in case of any disk failures. Following comparison might help you: ============== Raid 0 Minimum 2 disks. Excellent performance ( as blocks are striped ) No redundancy ( no mirror, no parity ) =============== Raid1 Minimum 2 disks. Good performance ( no striping. no parity ) Excellent redundancy ( as blocks are mirrored ) =============== Raid5 Minimum 3 disks. Good performance ( as blocks are striped ) Good redundancy ( distributed parity ) providing both performance and redundancy =============== Raid10 Minimum 4 disks. This is also called as “stripe of mirrors” Excellent redundancy ( as blocks are mirrored ) Excellent performance ( as blocks are striped ) ==================== You will have to place the SSD and mechanical drives in two different arrays to obtain the performance and data integrity. I know the enviroment for server for high load, i need kvm access for to configure this hard drives, both working as raid1, with customized partitions over the server in order to store files around of 500Kb I need enabled over the server one live cd for to tuning the partitions. This activity not have included the instalation of OS. but i will create the partitions required by you for this purpose. Best regards, Leandro Rache

Non SSD disks must be configured as raid 1 and operating system must be installed on it. Some partitions on RAID 1 must be used for backup. SSD disks must be configured as RAID 0 for performans and chunk size may be 64 kb. Your small sized billions of files must be stored on SSD disks.
