Customize Wordpress travel blog to work with Google or Bing maps

We are creating a travel blog. We would like to be able to embed a google/bing map on our wordpress based site's home page and 1 detail page. This map will have an overlay of the countries visited so far. We will be creating posts with some custom fields (country name, weather, temperature.) We would like the information from the blog posts to drive the map overlay. The countries visited will need to be colored per the attached color map. When the user mouses over the map, the country overlay color should change, the date that the visit occurred and a tiny thumbnail of the featured image should appear in a little bubble (per the attached comps). When the user clicks on a country, an overlay will appear over the map. The overlay will have the name of the country, the name of the blog post, an excerpt, some custom fields, and the first 3 images in the post. You can use either Google or Bing maps. Please show examples of google maps or bing maps work that you have done.
