A central/server based messenger that accept messages/text from any application and sends to a specific user on the LAN. if the user is not login, it will que the message up till expiration time or inform the recipient immediately he is on line. Also, a acknowledgment is sent to the sender and the receiver can also reply the sender. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Thursday Jan 4, 2007 1:28:29 PM: Based on the responses I got from various bidders, it became clearer that I need to give more details on my requirements for the DesktopMessager Background: We are looking for a simple instant/popup message tool, called DMessanger, that is extremely simple to use with a rich and intuitive GUI. It will serve as a middle software between two or more PC’s running various/same database application that needs to communicate externally. The service expected is for the DMessanger to receive a request (text message) meant for a known receipient or group of receipients on the LAN. This request is initiated by background API from any application that can do that or even by command line. The way this request is captured can be determined by you. Just bear in mind that, I should be able to send such request from a custom program in Clarion, VB, or Power Builder etc. DMessanger checks if any of the recipient(s) are online and instantly forwards the message to them by poping up on the screen (optionally play a sound as well) and give the receipient a chance to choose an action.. eg [OKAY, REMIND-ME etc]. The sender is also notified of the delivery status of the message. Also, the sender is informed of the action taken to his request. If the recipient is not on-line, DMessanger stores the message and keeps checking till expiration of the message as well as informing the sender of such status. NB: This is not a IM software. It’s a variant if you like. A typical scenario of usage: A financial application requires a manager to authorize a transaction in progress in the front office. The user in the front office should be able to hit a key or button to send a simple message like: “Customer Alexander wants to withdraw $300.00, please authorize. From Collins. Thanks?? This message should popup on the manager’s sy stem. And he can take the appropriate action. Software Components The system should consist of a windows client and server executables. Client features: • Loads with windows on startup into the background (system tray) • Listens/queries the server for own’s messages. If found, it popup the messages • Should have an interface to send a direct message to any login recipient • GUI should be XP like or better look/feel • Popup messages can be [Done/Ok, Remind Me, Rejected/Cancelled, forwarded to another person] • Server features: • Accepts request from the client, • Expose API’s that can be used to control the server from a given application • Keep a register of login and online users • Send/Retry messages to a given client • Keeps a database of all messages received/sent etc to date • Allow for data purging over a period • Interface for querying database or generating reports. NB: database can be accessed from external reporting tool eg Crystal Reports • Ability to block a client/user from sending/receiving messages • Messages should be TEXT but if its not a problem, it can contain graphics (Futuristic) Preferred Development Tool: VB.Net, C#.Net, Clarion Database for messages: MS-Access 2000, XML, Or MS-SQL 2000 PS: Priority in the same order.
