CANBus Project Specification Development

We have a well documented market plan. The project will involved embedded CANBus protocol control of peripherals. We expect that our product will be implemented with a Microchip PIC device. Our control unit is planned to control an existing 'in-production' device from a third party ( we do not know their control protocol details ). The first part of this project is to determine whether or not, we can glean sufficient information to have a realistic chance of implementing this project. We understand that the original CanBus work was executed by a German automotive company, a sporty automotive company.
