Dear Advertiser, I'm working currently for a start-up company on an iOS application using different REST endpoints and also applying push notifications. I both contributed to the REST client interface in the app, and the backend service. The backend DB used is Cassandra. Push notifications are sent out in both production and test environments (using different APN environments), triggered by a REST API call. Initially, based on the expected usage you've described I'd use a DigitalOcean deployment, host REST service (for providing the APIs) using Python, Flask and uWSGI+Nginx. Depending on the DB used, PyMongo or couchdb will be applied in the service code. For sending out push notifications, PyAPNs provides a convenient module. It would be nice to discuss the details!
