when i was work with autodesk Revit, it gave a chance to have my own pattern easily. i can work easily what i have in my hand or my surrounding. especially to have texture, pattern on our own histrocial build. it was the best choice. when i change 2D to 3D. i start to visualize it with sketch, then i close my eyes and dream it every structure, lighting and the material texture.
