Assistance in removing a rotating banner advert

We have a rotating banner advert next to the title on our WordPress website home page. I have managed to remove the image by deleting it permanently from the Media Gallery, but the link/widget/plugin still remains there, showing a broken link. I need help getting this removed as my previous developer didn't tutor me on it, and believe it might have something to do with code?
