I have recently purchased a VPS. This VPS is Win Server 2012 and I have SQL Server Express running on it (my database requirements are basic). I have Restored a database from an old SQL Server but the user passwords have not been restored so when I try to login as one of the database users via a connection string I can't. I have one user (sa) but as far as I can tell this user doesn't have permission to set passwords or create users. I will be restoring several other databases once I get this one functioning so I need to know how to resolve this for future use. Desired Outcomes : To have my old users function as they once did (ie be able to set a password for them and use this as a login in a connection string) in this database. To know how to do the above in any future restored databases. To know how to set passwords for these users, and users in future restored databases, in SSMS. To know how to get the setup so I can create new users in SSMS for any new databases

sounds pretty simple you restored a database from another server here is a hint logins are tied to servers where as users are tied to the databases we will just need to sync the logins with the current server should take no more than an hour
