I would like to have the step by step for configuration of honeypot based IDS in Ubuntu or Linux. I would like this honeypot based IDS is just done in single machine, and may be a 2nd machine to emulate attacks on system to do attack analysis. I would like it to be able to capture the essence of both the system, ie attract and interact with attacker while emulating a real system (Honeypot) and record the activity of attacker and alert the user (IDS).

I understand that you want to install a honeypot IDS. I would recommend that you look into the HoneyDrive distribution instead. HoneyDrive comes with loads of honeypot and ids software preinstalled and preconfigured. It is designed to run inside of VMware or Virtualbox and can use a bridged network connection to connect to the network directly. HoneyDrive is also based on Xubuntu 12.04 LTS.
