We need experienced web coders with a Joomla emphasis to a) edit an existing Joomla 1.5 site and b) build new code to support a 'visual threaded discussion'.
A. ? Web Site Edits
The site is described below, with 'to do' items in **BOLD:**
1. ? Menu system. ? See the above site for a look at the desired menu system, and the navigational chart attached.
a. ? Users have 3 top-level menu choices. ? Clicking one of the three choices (shown in the splash screen mock-up) displays sub-level choices in the black viewport at lower left.
b. ? Clicking on one of the numbered choices above displays an article preview/slug in the right view pane. ? **Note: ? information displayed in the view pane needs to be persistent, like a command shell -- as the user clicks new choices at left, next next scrolls into the view at right, pushing the previous text up in the scrollable pane.**
c. ? Clicking on a link below the preview/slug opens an article view. ? Articles can either be default-style Joomla 'blog' links, AND articles may **display in a hover-up *modal* PDF viewer, with extra link material overlaid in the browser.**
Note: ? in the attached navigation chart image, 'roots' / 'tabs' / 'links' relates in Joomla terms to Category/Section/Article. ? The attached .PSD file contains the master image to create the images seen in the site. ? **Some editing and output of the text for these links will be needed, based on discussion once the project begins.**
2. ? Admin interface to configure/change the menu system in item 1, above. ? The goal is make it relatively easy for users to:
- **Assign titles/links in all menus.** ? Note: ? Extra admin controls for menus may not be needed if the template allows users to change menus using the build-in Joomla admin menu editors.
- **Configure whether a given article will display as a normal Joomla 'blog' or as a link to a hover-up modal PDF** (see above).
B. ? 'Visual Threaded Discussion'
This is new code, envisioned as a Joomla Component that will be released as open source once complete.
Overview of application:
The web site shown above has been created to distribute 3D data (from laser scanners) taken on site in Chichen Itza, Yucatan. ? In order for the data archive to be useful, we would like to allow users to download and upload files, as you typically would in a forum or threaded discussion forum (e.g., Kunena --? <[login to view URL]>). ? However, since the 3D data we are sharing is spatially linked to a real-world site, we would like to allow users to enter the discussion via a 3D browser showing an (existing) model of the site.
Needed components:
1. ? Forum component (may use existing open source code)
- Must allow users to download and upload files from a repository on the server.
- Must support basic search (by text)
2. ? 3D Model viewer component (may use existing open source code)
- The 3D model, and textures, will be provided. ? Ideally, the viewer will support .OBJ models, .MTL files for UVs, and JPEG for image maps.
- Navigation includes normal VRML-style controls and camera animation to predefined location names, listed in a sidebar in the viewer. ? (i.e., clicking "Ball Court" smoothly animates the scene camera to an XYZ location predefined in an ASCII file on the server.?
- Integration with above search tool: ? display clickable highlights on the 3D model if the search text matches a static list of predefined location names with XYZ locations in world space for the model. ? Predefined location names are stored in an ASCII file on the server (.XML, etc.), as above.
Further discussion will be needed to propose specific functionality.

Thanks for your interest in this project. Since the 2 parts of this job contain two very different deliverables, I think it makes more sense to split the job into two RAC projects. Part one is some expert Joomla 1.5 editing of the existing site described and linked in the project description. If you would like to enter a bid on just this part of the job (Joomla 1.5 editing, as described in the job description). Please have a good look at the list of edits, because we are asking for a couple tricky requests. The main 'trick' is to add HTML content to a scrolling iFrame seen at the right of the existing site. As long as you are comfortable with the written requests, by all means submit a bid for 'just' the Joomla 1.5 editing. Thanks, -Kevin
