I have two Google Doc Spreadsheets created from a Form.? I want to take data from these two forms and update a third spreadsheet. Data will be added daily to one of the first two spreadsheets and the data needs to be updated appropriately in the third spreadsheet. I thought we could write it in Python ? google spreadsheet api and the text_db methods to read the first two spreadsheets and update a third spreadsheet. ? Once updated, the third spreadsheet could also display graphical data representing the data now in the sheet. ## Deliverables I have two Google Doc Spreadsheets created from a Form.? One contains Name, Month, and then 6-8 columns of numeric data which represent the planned results at the by the end of the month. The Other page contains Name, The Month, The Day of the Month, and those same6-8 fields. Some of the fields are the activity of the day and others are the accumulation to date. Individuals fill out forms online and populate the sheets. I want a python script using the google spreadsheet or text_db api to create/update a third spreadsheet which will total the data and using the visualization api, throw up some graphs to represent the data. Basically we will want to be able to see the progress of each of the individuals towards their monthly goals and we want to see the totals and progress as a group. The linux box this runs from already has a LAMP system installed, python is on the box and the gdata python code from google is all installed and seems to be running fine. This should be a very short simple project. I need it up fairly quickly since data for March is being input already. You can probably develop on your own box and your own google account. Once it is complete and works, I can download to my box and test. Other questions came up, here are some more notes: OK, Several questions so I'll try to clarify for everyone at the same time. The Daily Results Spreadsheet can be viewed at: [login to view URL] and the Monthly Goal Spreadsheet can be viewed at: [login to view URL] The username is rentacoder@[login to view URL] and the password is GiveMeAccess -- it should be a view only document. There is a link to the 2 forms that fill out these two pages at the [login to view URL] website. There is a third link which I had intended for a python script that would grab the data from the other two sheets and then generate the output. It has been suggested that we might be able to do this strictly as a Google Apps application that automagically creates the third spreadsheet and updates it as data is entered. If that is doable, I'm ok with that option. I will simply need enough information so that by induction and your notes, if I need to make future changes, I'll be able to do that. Version of Python is 2.5. The gdata library has been downloaded and the ElementsTree seems to work fine. You'll notice there are 6-8 similar data columns in both of the reports. #contacts, #plans, #signups, PV Amt, #FastTrack, #Members, #CDs, #Books. In the Goal Document, the numbers represent the plan for the Month Specified for that Individual. For the Daily Spreadsheet, for all of the columns except the PV Amt, the number is the accomplishment for the specific day. For the PV Amt, it is the cumulative amount for the month up to that date. So, For each person, I will total up all of the Columns in the Daily Docs and post them to the third spreadsheet. If today is the 5th, then for each of the columns, in the new spreadsheet, I will provide the Person's Name, the number they have accomplished to date for each item, the number they should have completed (5 days out of 31, integer amt), and the goal for the month. This data will display in the sheet named for the month. So there should be a sheet for every month as the time moves forward. The sheet should also have a Total Row with totals from everyone so we can see how we are performing as a group. The graphs show a progress bar, a visual representation of what percentage they have completed against the goal to date and also against the goal for the month. The total graph should also show that and then another total should be a pie chart for each item to show each person's contribution to the total team goals. All of this may not display easily on a page, I thought that if it's possible we could have the graph display when clicking on or mousing over a particular entry.? Perhaps in the progress bars display red when they are more than 10% behind, green if they are within 10% of the goal and blue if they are blowing past the goal and doing more. I'm flexible with the visual output--- we are looking for something that is "pretty" and let's people know how everyone is progressing. In the future, I will want to add some stuff to show conversion ratios, but I figured I'd do that another time. Code Creep: If there is an easy way to add another person to the Dropdown when more folks join the group, that would be great. Hope that clarifies things. If not, I can try to create a video clip and see if that helps. Bob
