We have a number of Win NT4 / Win2K machines on our LAN that are used to run various automated processes for our business. We have about 20 machines now and will gradually be adding more machines. We would like to automatically reboot these machines on a scheduled basis (typically once per week). We need a utility that includes both a master and a client component. The master would tell the client to execute a Windows “Restart?? command. Once the client computer is rebooted, it must log in automatically. (Unfortunately our business processes cannot be run as NT services; the machines must be logged in for the our processes to run.)
The client component would probably have no user interface (but please tell me if you can think of any reason that it should). The master UI can be very minimal, but it needs to support:
* Any number of client machines (assume all are on the LAN)
* Ability to set a different reboot frequency for each client machine (e.g., Machine A every 3 days, Machine B every 6 days, etc.)
* Ability to manually trigger a Restart/Login for any machine that has the client software installed. This would restart the timer for that machine.
Perhaps you know of shareware or some other commercially available software that already does this kind of chore. In that case, we are willing to pay a reasonable fee for specific instructions and guidance on which tool to buy, how to install it, and for any scripts that might have to be written. We are already maxed out on other tasks and are hoping to have someone deliver this ready-to-use.
