I own a carwash and currently the cars are being recorded manually. I want to connect a camera (CCTV or even webcam) pointed at the entrance. Cars would be parked at this entrance at least 5 mins. I would like to have this camera connected to the laptop and have software on the laptop to automatically recognize the number plate and record it into microsoft excel or even a text document. Currently there is number plate recognition software available but it is not set up to do what I need.

Hello there. I can use existing opensource recognition software if you want this. Data can be collected to disk or/and directly to desired application. Can make it to have better results than plate recognition software used separately. Well, if you have any questions just ask.

You need a generic desktop pc with win7 or higher and webcam. I am a developer experienced in both video technology and OCR so I going by what you have described, I have an idea of what needs to be done. But we need some time to do some proper testing and that is included in the 15 days.
