you can use lets encrypt ssl certificate for the domain and the subdomains separately. moreover its free when compared to positive ssl. What's your exact budget for SSL cert you want to buy. How many subdomains do you have. If you have 3-5 subdomains only i would then recommend you to use Letsencrypt SSL certs They are free. The only drawbacks are 1) At present they wont provide wild card ssl , will need to create ssl or each subdomain 2) Needs renewal after every 3 months.
