We are looking for a company or persons who engineers a prototype hardware panel with following criteria:
1. A plastic panel, colored red with dimensions 120mm (length) x 70mm (width) x 5mm (thickness), preferring as thin as possible and still dimensionally stable, remark: mm=millimeter.
2. A display, showing time (white background which displays black numbers, preferring an e-ink paper), integrated in the plastic panel, very low energy consumption, very high contrast black (numbers) & white (background).
3. Processor (programmable) with mobile connectivity integrated in the panel. Mobile connectivity with the lowest energy consumption (e.g. Bluetooth, NFC or WiFi) and fast connection the mobile device (Android, iOS, Microsoft) to synchronize the data (time between panel and mobile device, hardware check (= battery charge level, LED functionality, processor connection stability / speed, display usage)).
4. Battery (Lithium-Ion-Battery) rechargeable by micro USB port (chargeable every 4 month) or non-rechargeable button battery, changeable and durability at least 1 year. Maybe possible to integrate a solar panel to charge the battery.
5. 2 LED (with lowest energy consumption), one LED flashes if the battery is low, and one LED shows that the wireless connectivity to the mobile device is activated (blinking) and connected (stable gleam)
6. An On/Off button is integrated in the panel, to activate the wireless connectivity to the mobile device and to adjust the time on the display.
7. The hardware panel need to be impact-proof, heat-resistant (sun exposure) ideally -20 degree Celsius till 60 degree Celsius, waterproof

The prototype will be tested with a mobile app, after the test is successful, we will produce 200’000 till 400’000 number of items for the first run.
Please provide us with the information for which price you can produce the prototype for testing and finally the series of over 200’000 number of items.

I have BS, MS and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from one of the most reputable universities in Turkey and have 15 years of analog and microcontroller based systems design experience (both hardware and firmware) and 5 years of RF design experience. I am founder and manager of an R&D company focusing on analog and embedded systems design.
I have worked on a design draft including component costs. NFC communication is the most power efficient way and bi-directional NFC communication is possible. There are ICs operating from harvested energy. For longer range, BT can be used with higher power and cost. Wi-Fi is not suitable for this project. We can design the panel and manufacture a couple of units in our 3-axis CNC. For 200.000 items, exact price will vary on the final design but an estimated price is $18/unit (including $4 for display which can be decreased further).
Please note that:
- Molding design is not included in the bid, it will be performed for mass-production stage and is included in estimated unit price.
- FCC/CE certifications are also not included since even only independent laboratory testing costs exceed this bid. Some manufacturers skip these tests and self-declare conformity but this poses risks in the market. We will work on certification costs before mass production.
-the requested prepayment is only for nulling the immediately taken 10% site commission. We found it necessary because of employers who disappear after awarding.

Currently we will use 320_240 Color TFT lcd with STM32F103RET6 device for demo unit or prototype. after approval of prototype we can give with customized lcd. we have ready NFC from NXP, bluetooth module & wifi parts. we can use any one as your required. we can give you solar panel for charging of li-ion battery on requirement with optimal power range.

Hello, this is a very interesting project that I would like to participate and I really now that I can develop.
I have two main questions:
About the processor what are the functions that you need? display the time and sincronize data? what kind of data ? I read that "(time between panel and mobile device, hardware check (= battery charge level, LED functionality, processor connection stability / speed, display usage)). " ... but what else? I mean what is this box for? just to display the time as a clock ?
Other question for me is that if you know a battery that last 4 months.. I will search for it, but also depends of the processor consumption that I'm going to do the most efficient possible.
In fact if found very high 5,000 USD for a prototype like this, It should be cheaper.. and If you produce more than 200,000 items it should cost less than 150 USD
I believe I can provide a very high quality design for you based on the requirements of the project- I would like to understand what has been done so far...have the required components been sourced and this is a packaging exercise or is it a start from scratch operation.
