Hello, I am an analytics consultant with over 6 years of experience working with clients across the globe on data analytics and visualization. I have worked on financial services domain for over 4 years. Digitization in Insurance to me is basically bringing an end to end ecosystem with policies being digital instruments sold via online channels and even the redemption of the policies is done digitally. So basicallly what firms like policy bazaar starteg doing was beginning of deigitization of insurance and in future this could reach a level where all the data required for underwriting a policy is available to insurance companies through a central database and the policy price and premium etc are determined using an algorithm automatically. In case of redemption or claim, buyer could have an option of uploading documents and proofs and bots could determine the claim amount and guide the system to release the payment.

With an experience of more than 7 years in insurance sector, I have seen many up & downs of almost all the insurance companies of my country. There have been a lot of amalgamation in recent years with few closures. One lesson which I learnt from these closures are that being in insurance industry you need to be quite innovative in order to provide timely solutions to your client. One way of doing that is through continuous digitization. In future only those insurance companies will be able survive who are investing on digitization & are looking for an alternate solutions of their customer. The companies that stand to benefit the most will be those who uses the drive of digitization to rethink all their operations, from underwriting to customer service to claims management. Digitization will have impact on both revenues and costs. An analysis shows that the insurance company’s will not only increase their revenue by opting digitization but will also be able to reduces their claims cost.

Fintech revolution has disrupted various financial services in the recent years and reinventing existing business models. Insurance Tech space has also seen a lot of actions. Initially this sector started by disrupting the existing agent based insurance distribution model by bringing the distribution online with companies such as PolicyBazaar (Marketplace) and CoverFox(Online-First Insurance Agent). These platforms not-only educated the users about their requirements, but also brought transparency in the process through comparison of policy and layman representation of terms and condition. The next wave in this space would be bought by the emergence of Internet First Insurance Provider like Acko which will be able to pass the cost-saving benefit of lean-operations to the users and provide personalised premiums based on data analytics similar to Credit Rating being used by lenders.
