Computing Project Project Proposal Project details Title: Patient Records Management System Objectives: The objective of this project is to develop a system that can be used to manage patients records in a regional hospital in Ghana. The aim of the project is to help the hospital to store their patient’s personal and medical records on a computerised system, which is currently lacking in Ghana. Patients records are currently recorded on a sheet of paper and kept in a file. There are currently no proper records keeping in the regional hospitals and medical staff can’t easily access past records of patients to know past medical history and be well informed. Traditionally, the administration of patient records is done manually through a paper-based method. This project aims to design a Database system to manage patient record to enable easy record keeping and to help medical staff easy access to patient record. This system will reduce the workload of staff and help in creating and maintaining a good patient record keeping. Moreover, this system will help to produce an electronic medical record that will replace the paper-based method. It will also help in eradicating the problem associated with finding the record of patients. The proposed patient’s management system will provide a lot of benefits and some of them are as follows: 1. Easy access to patient records 2. Managing appointments 3. Diagnostics information 4. Prescription records 5. Billing information etc. 1 Description: The design will use a relational database and the website design will be built using different programming languages like HTML, PHP, MySQL etc. The system will have a web based front-end layer for hospital staff to visualise and ability to manipulate the data. Staff will have a username and password to access the system. It will need an administrator to register and manage the users on the system. The computerised system will replace the current paper-based system. This will help to bring about efficiency and proper data storing, which will help to improve the quality of health care provided. Method: There will be a methodology in gathering information from the end user, this activity will engage users to find out specific requirements and analysis of the existing processes. The information gathered will be translated into the system functions and operations. The programming languages that will be used for the design and implementation are HTML, PHP, etc. The programming code will be tested in unit testing and system testing will be performed as well. Any problem or defects that will be identified will be resolved. Deliverables: This project will provide information sharing protocol to the regional hospital staff and will bring about improvements needed. It will bring about the accuracy and make monitoring and evaluation of health service provision easily. It will ensure privacy and confidentiality of patients records by introducing access control mechanism, to avoid unauthorised access to patient’s information. Work plan: 1.
