Project description: Delivery: Visual component for VS 2008 (C#) The required component is an extended TextBox ([login to view URL]) with the additional requirement, that each text line will have its own font and color (bg and fg). The reason why I can not use RichTextBox, is that it is too slow. I will accept performance which is equal or better than plain TextBox. Summary of requirements: 1. Look and feel of a TextBox. 2. Comparable performance. I will test it. 2. Support TextBox API, plus: 3. Add a simple, clear API properties to set the font & color of each line. For example: [login to view URL][1000] = mtFont; [login to view URL][1000] = [login to view URL]; [login to view URL][1000] = [login to view URL]; You are free to come up with something else, as long as it is easy to use and clear. 4. If no color/font is set for a line, the parent's [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] are used. 5. Support large files (>10M characters.) 6. Integrated into the toolbox of VS 2008. 7. I don't care if you extend TextBox, RichTextBox, or whichever control you choose. 8. Provide the documented source code and anything required to integrate into the VS toolbox. 9. In C#. You may use native Win32 with DllImport or else. Thanks.

Stanford techies hack it with the (Stanford) Axe :-). Anyway, so the reason why you don't like RichTextBox is because you tried to highlight text segments by selecting each one of them and setting its color. That's the wrong way to do it - RTB ends up recomputing RTF hundreds of times. The right way to use RichTextBox is to compute RTF by yourself for the entire document. If you want, I can give you a very nice C# app that will generate this sort of RTF based on html-style text markup, e.g. like this (red)some red text(/red) normal text (green)some green text(/green).
