Hello, There are different methods and equations to estimate the walking parameters (walking speed, stride period, walking distance) from simple experimental equations to complex neural network based analysis using MEMS accelerometers, each providing different level of accuracy. They are all based on acceleration and deceleration statuses of the body during walking. Anyway, I have an advanced degree in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering with both academic and industrial experience. I have designed industrial vibration sensors for industry (condition based monitoring) based on Analog devices MEMS sensors (e.g. ADXL345) which are quite similar to your STMicro sensor. For your particular project and based on the brief description you have provided I think this could be the plan: 1- I can find you the best algorithm (if you have not found one yet) based on your physical constraints 2- I can simulate the algorithm and provide you its real-time performance in Matlab/Simulink and fine tune its parameters based on your needs. 3- I can write you the C-code and help you to implement the algorithm in your MCU in fixed point or floating point. 4- I cane help you with your circuit optimization and low power design.
